Wet Plate Collodion Workshop (Funshop!!!)

Hands-on Wet Plate funshops held
through-out the year for beginners!
During the Wet Plate Funshop You Will:
• Make both tintype and ambrotype (glass) images
• Make wet plate images in the studio and outdoors
• Use box cameras, dry plate cameras, and real wet plate cameras
• Learn how to Black Japan metal plates
• Mix all the necessary chemicals
• Learn how and where to purchase/make wet plate chemicals, supplies, and equipment
• Learn troubleshooting tips
• Take home wonderful wet plate images that you make
• Have fun!!!

I have been involved in the wonderful world of wet plating for a number of years. I started out
much
like you probably are, shooting with dry plate and box cameras that I adapted for wet plate
use. By
the way, box and dry plate cameras shoot great wet plate images! One of the things I learned
early
on was that I and other folks need a fun and inexpensive way to learn about the wet plate
processes.
Learning on our own is a very time consuming and expensive way to learn to enjoy wet plating.
The
learning curve when you do it on your own just plain takes too long! This class is designed to
be fun
and is all hands on, that is why the class size is limited to four folks. During this class we will
use box
cameras, dry plate cameras, and two wet plate cameras, an 8x10 E.T. Anthony tailboard replica
and a
stereo camera. I give special discounts for spouses and children because this is such a
wonderful
family hobby.
Cost:
$375 for adults (this includes all chemicals and supplies; there are no “extra charges”)
$200 for folks under the age of 18 – yes, bring your children and grandchildren!!!
Special: bring your spouse for just $200
Number of Funshop Participants:
Limited to 4 folks
Clothing Selection:
As you know, wet plating can get a little messy, so plan on wearing clothes that you do not mind
getting some silver nitrate stains on. I have plenty of rubber gloves on hand to protect your
hands,
but you may rub your gloved hands on your pants or shirt!
Saturday Dinner:
Plan on having dinner Saturday night at High Noon Saloon in Leavenworth – it’s a family
friendly place and I’ll buy for Funshop participants!!!
Historic Leavenworth, Kansas:
We will spend exciting, full days making images in the studio and in the First City of Kansas –
historic
Leavenworth founded in 1854 http://www.lvks.org/community.htm
For those family members not participating in the Funshop, shopping, recreational events, and
site
seeing are readily available in the Leavenworth area. Check out the local Leavenworth sites,
historic
Fort Leavenworth, the NASCAR track, world famous Cabelas Outfitters, the Nebraska Furniture
Mart,
T-Bones Minor League Baseball, the Steamboat Arabia Museum, the famous Legends shopping
area,
St. Joe Missouri, and Kansas City!!! There is plenty to do and see in Leavenworth!!!

Kansas, give me a call and I can arrange to pick you up at the airport in Kansas City and bring you

Leavenworth, provide transportation to the Funshop each day, and get you back to the airport for
only
$30. That’s cheaper than a rental car!!!
